Head Start and Early Head Start Programs provide comprehensive, developmental services for low-income pre-school children ages birth to five and support services for their families. The purpose of the Head Start programs is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of health, educational, nutritional, social and other services.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply
***** Enrollment ***** The program is a preschool program for children in low-income families. Children in Head Start are between the ages of three (3) and five (5) years of age. The program assists children in becoming physically, socially, intellectually, and emotionally adjusted. Services are also offered to meet the special needs of the children with disabilities. Head Start classrooms are in various locations through-out the county and meet the license requirements as set forth by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
