These programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and provide services to 501 low-income infants, toddlers, pre-school children and their families. All classrooms run from 8:45 am to 3:45 pm, Head Start from September through June, Early Head Start for 12 months. Enrolled children receive a full range of educational, medical, nutritional and social services. The Head Start and Early Head Start programs are free, and each family must demonstrate financial eligibility before being admitted. Parent involvement is highly stressed; it is expected that all parents take an active part in their child's education.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply
Enclosed is the application for Bergen County Community Action Partnership, Inc., Early Head Start/ Head Start Programs. Please complete all sections. You must personally bring the completed application and required documentation to our Administrative Offices located at: 263 Lafayette Ave. Cliffside Park, NJ 07010 Applications are accepted: Monday through Thursday 9:30 A.M until 11:30 A.M. and 1:30 P.M. until 3:30 P.M. Required Original Documentation 1. The completed application. 2. Child’s original birth certificate with the raised seal, or passport. 3. An immunization record with dates of vaccinations given to your child. 4. Income verification for household: • Last year’s Income Tax Return, Form 1040. • Two (2) current consecutive pay stubs for bi-weekly or bi-monthly payroll; Four (4) current consecutive pay stubs for weekly payroll. • If you are receiving any form of public assistance, we will need a letter from Social Services stating what and how much you are receiving
