Children between the ages of 3 and 5 years participate in a variety of activities that promote healthy growth and development. Learning opportunities are provided to assist in mental, social, emotional and physical growth. Staff recognizes and supports the philosophy of parents as the first teacher and parents are welcome to participate in classroom and other activities. The Head Start program offers various classroom options to meet family needs.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply
Who is eligible: Children ages 3, 4 and 5 years whose household income is at or below 100% of the current poverty guideline may qualify for the program. Other families may also qualify and should contact their local Head Start Family Case Management staff for information.Information/documentation required for application: Households begin the application process by completing a Pre-application available at their county Community Action Program office. Households will be contacted when Head Start slots are available and will be provided a list of required documentation which includes proof of income, immunizations, etc.Additional information: Some families may qualify for the program who do not fall at or below the program's income guidelines.
