The Head Start Program provides quality comprehensive child development services to 1,380 three and four year old children and their families. In 2008, the program operated twenty-three centers and seventy-five classrooms. Children attend classes from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The program implements the High/Scope Curriculum which is a nationally recognized curriculum framework appropriate for young children.

Who is Eligible?
Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.

How to Apply
Do I Qualify?
The following documentation is REQUIRED before an application for service will be taken.
Proof of the TOTAL household income received in the past 30 days.
Income includes:
Gross wages (wages before taxes are taken out)
If you are no longer employed, a statement of your last date worked and gross wages received in the past 30 days is required.
If you recently became employed or will begin employment, a statement of your start date of work is required.
If you receive or have received unemployment benefits, a current printout from the unemployment office is required (paymentbenefit history printout.)

SSI
Veteran’s benefits
Pension
Retirement
AFDC: A current AFDC benefit history, food stamp benefit history, and household summary printouts .
Child support: If you receive or have received child support, a current printout from family court is required, or other documentation to prove child support payments.
A notice of disconnection, cut-off, or eviction.
