Head Start is a free kindergarten readiness preschool for 3 and 4 year olds in Sheboygan County. Head Start's goal is to improve the lives of income eligible children by providing quality comprehensive child development services that are family focused, including education, health, nutrition, and mental health. Family income must be at or below the federal poverty guideline though some exceptions may be made. Children must be 3 years of age by September 1st.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Families are encouraged to apply.

Return Application with the following items: Proof of receipt of Child Care Assistance, SSI, or W-2 cash payments orProof of Income (tax return, check stubs, unemployment, child support…) Child’s Original Birth Certificate Child’s Immunization Records Any Legal or Custody Paperwork (if applicable)
